From over 600 applicants, 15 outstanding young people were selected to join the 2026 Youth Researchers Academy (YRA), marking another milestone in nurturing youth-led research in Zimbabwe.

The cohort participated in an intensive week of hands-on learning designed to strengthen their capacity in research methodology, presentation skills, and meaningful engagement. Sessions were facilitated by experienced THRU-ZIM researchers and partner experts, providing participants with practical tools to support their research journeys.

Beyond structured learning sessions, the training included group activities, debates, and discussions that encouraged collaboration, peer learning, and the development of a strong cohort identity. The residential setting also created space for meaningful networking and shared reflection among participants.

Following the training, each youth researcher has been placed within ongoing THRU-ZIM studies, including KOSHESAI, PROMISE, Neotree, CoDe, Kids with Kids, and RESTORE. Each participant has also been paired with a dedicated mentor to guide them through the full research process—from literature review and data engagement to analysis and dissemination over a three-month period (March–June 2026).

The youth researchers are expected to complete their projects by June 2026 and will present their findings at a stakeholder dissemination meeting later that month. Their work is anticipated to generate fresh, youth-led insights into sexual and reproductive health (SRH) challenges and opportunities affecting young people in Zimbabwe.

THRU-ZIM congratulates the 2026 YRA cohort and extends sincere appreciation to the facilitators, mentors, and partners whose support made the Academy possible.

The Youth Researchers Academy 2026 is supported by Hivos through the Regional SRHR Fund and implemented by THRU-ZIM in collaboration with the Biomedical Research and Training Institute (BRTI) and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).
