Nineteen outstanding Early Career Researchers recently celebrated the completion of their PHD and MScs achievements at a special award ceremony held on 8 May 2026 in Harare.

The cohort comprised 11 PhD and 8 Master’s graduates, who successfully completed their studies through a network of esteemed local and international partner universities. These include the University of Zimbabwe, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London, The University of Manchester, Midlands State University, and Ludwig- Maximilians-Universität München. THRU-Zim aims to continue celebrating their success as the public engagement team begins its latest initiative to create a 'graduate wall' in their offices.

The ceremony brought together graduates, their families and friends, as well as valued institutional partners, creating a memorable occasion that recognised both academic excellence and collaborative achievement. Everyone celebrated the exciting moment with cutting a cake, a small symbol of the great achievements of our Early Career Researchers.

As they embark on the next phase of their careers, they carry with them the values and reputation of THRU-Zim and BRTI. We are confident they will lead with integrity and make meaningful contributions to improving health outcomes across Zimbabwe and the African continent.

Congratulations to our PhD recipients: Farirayi Kowo-Nyakoko, Claire Calderwood, Tinotenda Taruvinga, Edson Marambire, Tafadzwa Madanhire, Nyasha Dzavakwa, Malinda Kaiyo-Utete, Collins Timire, Salome Manyau and Leyla Larsson.

We are equally proud of our Master’s graduates: Trevor Chivandire, Sekanevana, Cuthbert, Violet Muparamoto, Onismo Mufare, Karlos Madziva, Fionah Mundoga and Faith Rutendo Kandiye.
